I just got booked as a last minute substitute guest for my fellow MAD man Tom Bunk at Indiana Comic Con next weekend in Indianapolis. Tom had to cancel his appearance at the last second, so the nice folks at ICC asked me if I could fill in for him. I suspect they already had a bunch of MAD “Tom” stuff printed up so this way they saved some dough on reprinting promos, but I am flattered nonetheless! I just booked my final 2018 workshop, taking place November 30th – December 2nd in Phoenix, AZ! As always, this is a three day workshop limited to 12 students, personally conducted by me. You know… IN PERSON. I watch you draw. I pull up a chair and go over your work. I examine what you are doing, find areas you specifically need to work on to improve, and show you how to do it. Back in October at New York Comic Con, DC Entertainment did a MAD theme for their big company party in honor of the many years of great work the NYC MAD staff had done on the magazine. What you see above is the customized bar menu for the evening. I had two ‘Pale Ale Jaffee”s, the “43-Man Squamish” and “The Sergio Aragonés”… and I don’t remember much after that. READ MORE

Q: How do you handle drawing caricatures of people with disabilities? Say your subject has Down’s Syndrome, or M.S., or they are in a wheelchair, something like that? A: I find that people with disabilities take far more offense if you DON’T draw them as they look that if you do. Trying to “normalize” them is insulting. It is basically saying “You are broken but don’t worry, I will fix you in the drawing”. That is extremely insulting. People with disabilities are not broken, they are different just like anyone is different from the next person, it’s just that their differences create challenges other people… READ MORE

Next weekend I’ll be abandoning wintery Minnesota for sunny Anaheim, CA to attend Wondercon 2018! Wondercon takes place at the Anaheim Convention Center March 23rd-25th, and you’ll find The Lovely Anna and me at booth number SP-83. You will also find me at the highly entertaining Quick Draw hosted by Mark Evanier, where I will not be just making a cameo appearance, but will be one of the three participating artists! We are getting increasingly more obscure with our run of 60’s Batvillians. Here’s Anne Baxter as “Olga, Queen of Cossacks” from the third season of “Batman”. As always, the original is available in the Studio Store. Bat Facts: While this was Olga’s only appearance on the series, Anne Baxter had another appearance.
