Here’s a couple of links to some terrific reads on this and that: Mental Floss has an article on the “15 Secrets of Caricature Artists” by Lela Nargi. Medium contribtor Nell Minow writes about the National Cartoonists Society’s Reuben Weekend, and specifically about the great line up of speakers and panels that were there, including the MAD Magazine panel.. The Hollywood Reporter…uh… reports about the great Stan Sakai being the first honoree of the Joe Kubert Distinguished Storyteller Award from the Kubert School and Atomic Crush Events at Ontario’s Comic Con Revolution earlier this month. I just returned from another fabulous National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award Weekend, this time held in Philadephia. It was a great time as usual, planned and hosted by NCS President and first-lady Bill and Kayre Morrison. Getting to hang out with so many of my peers whom I respect and admire is one of the highlights of my year. Receiving the statuette above was one of the highlights of my life. This is THE Reuben Award, designed by Rube Goldberg himself, which I was honored with at the 2012 Reubens in Las Vegas. This year’s winner was animation legend Glen Keane. Monday MADness- My First MAD job!

I was at the National Cartoonists Society’s annual Reuben Weekend in Philadelphia and sat in on a MAD magazine panel. During the panel, I was asked about how I got started with the magazine. I thought about it afterward and it was basically exactly 18 years ago, shortly after the 2000 Reuben Weekend, that I got my first assignment from MAD. It was a three pager entitled “MAD‘s Cable TV Viewing Odds” written by John Biederman. This job was what is called an “evergreen” feature… meaning it is not timely and can be run virtually at any time when they need a couple of pages… READ MORE

Huge Cartoonist Meet and Greet In Philly!

The library will be opening special for us on Sunday from 1-4, where you can meet some of your favorite cartoonists and get some autographs or sketches.
