It’s humbling to ask people to donate money when so many out there need assistance, but my youngest daughter has had a serious medical emergency and really needs some help. Gabrielle is 24, and a very brave and determined young woman. She packed her bags and moved to Orlando shortly after high school to pursue her dream of being a performer. Hoo-boy. Anytime I start thinking I might be getting a might overconfident in my work I need only drag out something like this to see how far I’ve come and, by inference, how far I still have to go. Here’s the artwork from my third parody in Cracked, issue #346 with a cover date of August 2000 but was on news stands in the spring of that year sometime. Barry Dutter did the writing and I did all the art, and the layouts, and the graphics/type/word boxes. Some of the caricatures in this one are spectacular failures. READ MORE

The Lovely Anna and Nick at the 2008 Reubens The New York Times published a terrific obituary/article on the late Nick Meglin today. It’s a real tribute to Nick’s importance in the world to see this in the Times. It’s a great read and really gets across what a crucial role Nick played in making MAD the humor and cultural phenomenon it became. It’s been a while since I posted an update on my 2018 worldwide caricature workshop tour. Workshops in Los Angeles (x2), Atlanta, Dallas, Chicago, New York City and Toronto are in the books already. Most of the rest of 2018 is sold out including Portland, Switzerland, and Los Angeles (again!), but I do have a few spots open in the following workshops: London, UK: Aug 14-16th: Some late cancellations have opened up a couple of spots on what has been a sold out workshop the last few months. Q: Your understandable reluctance to do ‘blue’ art reminds me that I recently bought (here in Australia) a couple of oldish German and Dutch MADs out of curiosity (Torres, Aragonés but no Drucker). Anyway there was more than a few x-rated cartoons which I found was not in the spirit of the MAD I know. How do the UGOI feel about this and what power do/did they have to influence it? I thought I’d let followers of the blog know I’m down to only 30 copies of my limited edition Sherlock Holmes print “The Game is Afoot”. This really is a “limited edition” of 450 signed and numbered prints, so once it’s gone it’s gone. I’ll bring a few copies with me to the various Comic Cons I’m doing this summer as long as they last. This was one of my favorite prints to do as I am a bit of a Sherlockian.
