I had planned on waiting until the issue came out to post this, but ComingSoon.net had the scoop on MAD‘s Svengoolie feature in issue #4 yesterday, so I guess no need to keep it under wraps anymore. Q: Reading about your process I see that you still pencil and ink traditionally, but then color digitally. Why not do the entire thing digitally? A: Let me preface my response by saying I have zero problem with people who do 100% digital work. I have seen mind-blowing work done all digital. More power to you. No judgement here. Speaking of Katy Perry, I repurposed that Sketch o’the Week I posted yesterday for this full pager that appeared in GQ magazine back in 2015… Just had to do a little modification and add some color. Photo ©2012 Greg Preston This is one of my favorite pictures in the world. It was taken by photographer extraordinaire and author of the terrific books “The Artist Within” Volumes 1 and 2, Greg Preston. The 2012 National Cartoonists Society Reuben Award Weekend took place in Las Vegas, and we had both a MAD panel and a 60’s “MAD MEN” themed party to celebrate the magazine’s 60th birthday. I still pinch myself that I am included in this photo of serious legends of cartooning and comics (and a couple of models).
