Q: I have a question that involves pen and ink. I’m having trouble keeping the flow going on my nibs. doesn’t take too long before it “jams up” and becomes unworkable. This happens with most and different sizes. I’m thinking the paper I’m using might have something to do with it (using cheap paper to practice on), or the brand of ink, or, I don’t know. I’m also wondering if anybody else runs into this situation. A: To answer the last part of that question: yes, EVERYONE has that problem. It happens a lot, but not with every other line. There can be a lot of… READ MORE

If you grew up in the UK and had a suitably juvenile sense of humor you are probably familiar with the comic magazine Viz. It’s known for its parodies of other British comics, a number of characters in ongoing features that have branched out to animation and other media, and a lot of vulgar, blue,… READ MORE

Back in May at the NCSFest cartoon and comics festival there was a terrific exhibit of original art and memorabilia celebrating Popeye’s 90th anniversary at the Huntington Beach Art Center. The show was packed with tribute art from some big time cartoonists (and me) celebrating the titular squinty-eyed sailor-man. Well, now all that tribute art is going to be auctioned off to benefit the National Cartoonists Society Foundation, the charitable arm of the NCS. Here are the details from the NCS website: 2019 marks the 90th anniversary of the first appearance of everyone’s favorite spinach-munching sailor, Popeye, in E.C. Segar’s celebrated newspaper strip Thimble Theatre. Popeye’s… READ MORE

I’ve known this for a few days now but felt I needed to keep it under my hat. However MAD’s MADDEST WRITER Dick DeBartolo officially let the cat out of the bag on Leo Laporte’s “The Tech Guy” podcast this past weekend that MAD #11, which was originally supposed to be the first issue with reprinted classic material and little or no new original content, will have the annual “MAD‘s 20 Dumbest, Events, People, and Things of (the Year)”. So that’s a lot of original content right there… at least for one more issue. READ MORE
