Caricaturists have a technical term for the type of face Danny DeVito has… it’s called a “field day”. Danny’s face is far wider than it is tall, and yet it is “squeezed” in the temple area so he has a squat “peanut” shaped head. His forehead is nearly as wide at the cranium sides as his lower face/jaw/jowls. When you have a subject with a headshape that has such an obvious and pronounced departure from the “typical” portrait head shape, it is easier to push the exaggerations and not compromise the likeness. Here’s my caricature of Max Von Sydow for the Daily Coronacature. He has some great features to exaggerate. He has a long, narrow face but a very pronounced underbite ante creates a “mound” that sticks out above his chin. He also has heavy, sagging areas above his upper eyelids that give him a sleepy, pensive sort of expression. Finally, those heavy duty bags under his eyes are important. READ MORE

Today’s subject: Will Smith! Will has small eyes that are quite far apart, a rectangular shaped head and very prominent ears. READ MORE
Here’s my take on today’s subject: Jared Leto! Jared’s got a long, lean face with a round, protruding chin. His eyes are very intense, with long eyelashes and heavy, hairy eyebrows. He also has very sharp and high cheekbones. READ MORE
