I pity the fool! I told the story in my newsletter “The Ink Stained Wretch” last week about tabling with Mr. T and the NOW Comics booth in San Diego Comic Con in 1993. Not subscribed to the ‘Wretch?? More than a few people were upset that former late night talk show legend Conan O’Brien was not included in that MAD cover of current late night hosts I did for the latest issue. The editors wanted only current late night hosts in the scene, and figured they could add David Letterman because he has an occasional but ongoing interview show on Netflix. Since that show is not on late night, we depicted Letterman fast asleep. Adding former late night hosts would have been prohibitive. There would have been 20 plus people in the scene. After drawing Billy Idol last week I figured I might as well roll with another 80’s pop music superstar, so this week’s subject is a very young Madonna! I did a theme park example of her my very first summer doing caricatures in 1985 during this “Material Girl” phase of her look. Of course that was her ONLY look that that time. This one is very retro, and I am pretty sure better than that one 19 year old me did at Six Flags. READ MORE
