I just got my advance copies of the new MAD kid’s book parody Superman and the Miserable, Rotten, No Fun, Really Bad Day, written by Dave Croatto with art by yours truly. A nice hardcover with a dust jacket, the print job looks very good. The book will be released on Oct 17th in bookstores and via online booksellers like Amazon, and eventually I will have signed copies available in the Studio Store. READ MORE
Back to being under the gun with deadlines. Here’s an old one but appropriate after Apple’s big announcements yesterday: Apple co-founder and tech deity Steve Jobs. READ MORE
MAD writer extraordinaire Des Devlin sent me this link to a story about how Condé Nast, publisher of a whole lot of stuff including The New Yorker, has been dropping the ball on one of the most successful commercial ventures in cartooning, The Cartoon Bank. The article is a great read since it provides a fascinating history of The Cartoon Bank and how it works, what it did to help hundreds of gag cartoonists to make a living, and how and why its current health has declined. Gag cartooning is one area of cartooning I have never done. I greatly admire the art form and… READ MORE
Here’s a look at another series of character sketches I did for a segment on the “MAD” animated show on Cartoon Network. This one was a spoof of teh Bravo network show “The Millionaire Matchmaker” featuring Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark. The animators used previous designs I’d done for Batman and Iron Man for those parts. The above image is the host of the TV show Patti Stanger, and the girl in the fish nets and the guy with the beard are two other personalities from the show. Video clip below. READ MORE

Certainly we can expect the new editorial and art team led by new V.P Executive Editor Bill Morrison, to put their own stamp on MAD. BIG changes, though? I don’t think Bill and co. will do anything to change the MAD zeitgeist… in other… READ MORE

A week or so ago I did the Wizard Word Chicago Comic Con, and when there my old pal Patrick Williams came by my booth with a surprise for me. Patrick was an art director, inker, letterer, and colorist for NOW Comics back in the day, and we worked together on the Married… with Children series among other things. He had run across a couple of old originals of mine among his piles of stuff, and bright them to give back to me. This one was a promo piece that appeared in other NOW titles, inked (I believe) by David Mowry. This was probably done… READ MORE
