New Junk in the Studio Store!

October 10th, 2017 | Posted in News

I got home from New York Comic Con late yesterday to find several boxes of Superman and the Miserable, Rotten, No Fun, Really Bad Day awaiting me… a little late for NYCC but not for the Studio Store! I’ve just added both signed copies and signed copies with a sketch of Superman to the store, along with the “Stranger” Things cover print I debuted at NYCC. That and lots of other crap is available in the Studio Store. The holidays are coming soon, ya know. READ MORE

Monday MADness- An NYCC Farewell

October 9th, 2017 | Posted in MAD Magazine

This year’s “Mad about MAD” panel at New York Comic Con was special in a number of ways. Oh, it had the usual hilarity lead by VP, Editor and Executive Grand Poo-bah John Ficarra and VP of Art Direction and Grand High Schmuck Sam Viviano. It also had a stellar line up of “The Usual Gang of Idiots” including editors Joe Railoa and Charlie Kadau, former editor Nick Meglin, living legend Al Jaffee, long-time writer Dick DeBartolo, cover artist Mark Fredrickson, and cartoonist Teresa Burns Parkhurst. What was really fantastic was the number of MAD contributors in the audience, who got shout outs from John.… READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag- New MAD West Coast News?

October 8th, 2017 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: As a 53 year subscriber to Mad, I am both apprehensive and excited about the upcoming move and changes.  I was wondering if you learned anything more about the changes coming during NYC Comic Con and also if you will still be involved with the “new” magazine and whatever online things they are planning? A: DC Entertainment paid a lot of attention to MAD at NYCC this year, theming their annual party around the magazine (I had a couple of pints of “Pale Ale Jaffee” at the party) and otherwise giving the New York staff some appreciation for the many years of stellar work.… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week- Tom Petty!

October 4th, 2017 | Posted in Classic Rock Sketch Series

I was sad to hear of the sudden death of Tom Petty this past Monday. He was one of those rockers who had a bigger impact on music than you think at first glance. When I heard he had passed away I initially thought “that’s too bad” but I didn’t consider myself much of a fan. Then I got thinking about his music and how much of it I really liked. He was one of the early major players on Mtv back when Mtv actually played music videos. “Damn the Torpedoes” was one of the biggest albums of the early 80’s. He ghad hit after… READ MORE

Sunday Mailbag: Jet Lag?

October 1st, 2017 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: You have already been to China and Germany this year. How are you dealing with jet lag? Especially when coming home and having to meet deadlines. A: I thought this was an interesting question even though it has nothing to do with art. I’ve dealt with let lag many time with all my trips to the middle east for the USO, travels to Australia and Europe for cartooning events and trips I’ve taken for pain old fun. There are many opinions about how to deal with jet lag and some people will swear by certain methods and remedies to help with it. Some can… READ MORE
