On the Drawing Board- 9/16/08

September 16th, 2008 | Posted in On the Drawing Board

For the first time in I cannot remember how long, I have no paying work on the board. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Oh, I have a few long promised personal projects to get to, but nothing with a deadline or a paycheck on the other end. Ah well…

Here’s a poster job I wrapped up recently. Pencil sketch, inks and color:

Final Inks

Notice that Santa has changed a bit between the sketch and the final. It was decided Santa needed to look less like he was responding “so what?” to being reminded of his garbage duties and look more sheepish and apologetic.

    Tom,
those expressions are great. I think every husband can relate, great concept and great execution. How do I get out of the trash detail? Lets see I have 4 kids

    Hi Tom,
Kool Poster! I guess you’ll have more time to work on your next tutorial or forthcoming book?

Hi. I saw this poster at work and HAD to get a electronic copy! I was wondering, though. What if Santa gets forgetful and tosses THIS bag into the sleigh instead of the other one with all the magically reduced toys?

Can you imagine Junior’s surprise when he gets an apple CORE instead of an Apple Computer? !!!

I’d love to let any visitors to my blog see this art work!

  6. Henry says:

Oh, Tom, any chance you can get the old elf to sign this one?

  7. Tom says:

If you mean Santa, I can’t help you there. If you mean me, then of course. My address in on the “Contact Us” page found via the mailbox link at the very top of this page on the left side. Send me the poster (preferably in a tube) and include a self addressed return address label plus postage inside the tube with the poster. I’d be happy to sign it and send it back to you.
