Sunday Mailbag: Time Amid Deadlines?

January 6th, 2019 | Posted in Mailbag

Q: Say you have got a hard deadline for Monday on a big project, like a movie parody for MAD. You are behind so you are working around the clock, spending every spare minute inking and coloring like a fiend to try and get it done on time. Would you still take the time to answer a question for the Sunday Mailbag, even though it would take precious time away from the drawing table?

A: No

Thanks to A.E. Neuman for the question. If you have a question you want answered for the mailbag about cartooning, illustration, MAD Magazine, caricature or similar, e-mail me and I’ll try and answer it here!

  1. Milwaukee Mauler Tom Kerr says:

That was an abrupt no to Mr Newman. (Hahaha) my most recent problem is NOT having a consignment deadline and the person continues to add more ideas. I guess it wouldn’t be bad but drawing animals and trying to caricature them isn’t that fun. Especially when I walk that fine line of caricature-portrait style. Labor Day through (well, she still wants me to do more) January so far. Is it just better in the beginning to set a limit for each project even if it’s the same person? I did one, then they wanted more, then more. Etc. I think I was over whelmed and I got to the point of not wanting to do any drawing.
