Sketch o’the Week- Gerard Butler

October 17th, 2012 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

And now for something completely different . . . a sketch done entirely on the iPad using one of those stupid, marshmallow-ended Pogo styluses. This was mainly an exercise in frustration. I gave up on it after spending 4 times as long on what you see as I would have just using a good, old fashioned pencil and paper. I stand by my previous opinion that, while drawing on an iPad is possible, its not very fun or intuitive. I spend most of my time fighting the limitations of the iPad, so I didn’t really concentrate on the drawing and it’s pretty so-so at best as a result.

There are two things the iPad or similar devices need to be able to do in order to be real drawing tools. First, they need to be able to ignore the palm of your hand somehow so you don’t have to worry about it touching the surface when you are drawing, second, it needs a pressure-sensitive solution. Then it would be in business.

There are pressure sensative solutions for the iPad. Check on JaJa stylus or the pogo stylus. They claim to have pressure sensative, JaJa has the wierd tip and pogo has the marshmellow tip.. Haven’ t tried any of them.. I use the wacom stylus when i draw on my iPad.

A nice relief from your usual style and great to see you trying new techniques..but it is “GERARD” Butler..not Gerald 🙂
