Big Reviews for The Mad Art of Caricature!

Self-published books rarely get reviewed by more prominent review sources, but my book recently was reviewed in two such venues.

Lary Wallace of The Faster Times! posted a lengthy and very cool review on their website. It’s tough for a book that caters to a specific type of artform and artist to appeal to the “layman”, but Lary both enjoyed the book and opens the review with an experience he had with a retail caricaturist in his local mall. Not an uncommon experience, sadly. I don’t know who the live caricaturist is he talked with, but it sounds like one of those “I’m an arteeeeest, so screw you if you don’t “get” my totally awesome caricatures!” types. I’ve always hated that sort of thing. Very few caricaturists are capable of pulling off great likenesses and extreme exaggeration at the same time, and many who try delude themselves they are getting great likenesses but they are really just drawing unrecognizable distortions…but I digress. Lary gave the book a big thumbs up.

The other review is in the most recent issue of the School Library Journal. They VERY rarely review self-published books, but since I have a real distributor in both Follett and Brodart for libraries, They did a short review in their March edition. I can’t link to the web version since it requires you to have a subscription to access, but you might be seeing The Mad Art of Caricature! in a lot more libraries soon.
