The Books Are In!!

October 11th, 2011 | Posted in News

Yesterday the shipment of printed copies of The Mad Art of Caricature! finally arrived. Thanks to everyone who pre-ordered the book and who have patiently waited for them to arrive and for shipping to begin. Well… it’s begun. Last night we printed labels, I signed and sketched in books, then got placed into shipping envelopes and stacked up. Today the first batch of pre-orders get shipped, and we should have all pre-orders shipped by next Monday. It will take that long to get caught up as we have about 500 pre-orders to get out.

That’s what 3,000 copies of a book looks like. I had to pick these up from the dock, load them into a truck by hand, then unload them into my garage by hand again. Lastly I’ll be moving them into the basement for controlled-temperature storage. That’s 4,791 lbs of books I moved yesterday… TWICE. No need to go to the gym this week. The Lovely Anna (who now goes by a new nickname: “Shipping and Handling“) helped unload them into the garage.

That’s me doing the first of about a billion Alfred drawings for those who ordered the book with that option. The original art is also ready to go for those who ordered that.

Thanks again for everyone’s patience. I’m looking forward to hearing what people think of the book once they get their copies!

At least you didn’t have to resort to makeshift loading tactics, such as the one seen here on last week’s episode of The Office.

Can’t wait for my copy to arrive!

  9. I’m glad I ordered one without a drawing. The whole book is full of them anyway. 🙂

  11. Fiona says:

Whoever the fool was that came up with the idea to offer the option of an Alfred drawing in the book deserves to get Repetitive Strain Injury…oh, hang on, that’d be you, right ? :D.

No problem, I’ll come work as your apprentice and help you draw ’em if you’ll teach me all you know. Ok, maybe not ALL, just the bits about caricaturing, teeheehee.

Looking forward to receiving my copy all the way down here in South Africa. Bet I’ll be the first ! Will also be the first (and probably last) time I’ll be “the first” at anything.:)

  24. Tom, if I am not the United States and I pre-ordered the book, when will I have it?

    • Tom says:

That depends on when you ordered it. We are working from the first pre-orders forward. It will take the rest of the week and into next week to get caught up. Orders shipping to foreign countries are actually going to arrive afters in some cases that U.S. orders, as we are shipping domestic orders via USPS Media Mail (about 2-9 days for delivery) and international orders are shipping Priority International Flat rate, which they say is 3-7 days usually.

  25. Romalino says:

Hello Tom, are my eyes, or the cover of the book you’re reading (pictured) is facing down.
Congratulations for the book, very successful.

My husband’s convinced I’m two-timing him with the postman, coz my nosey neighbour told him how I rush outside to catch the postman each afternoon. All I’m doing is asking if my copy of the book is here yet. So could you please contact my lawyer ? We need your testimony for the alimony case.
