Classic Rock Sketches- John Lennon!
In honor of the release of a ton of remastered Beatles albums on CD and the video game “The Beatles: Rock Band” this week’s sketch subject is the late John Lennon. Lennon is probably the most elusive of the Fab Four to try and caricature. His look changed a lot over the years, and different angles of his face seemed to reveal different and sometimes opposing observations. Was his face long and thin, or did it have a lot of roundness and baby fat to it? His nose is long and bony, but did not dominate his face. Was his chin prominent or understated?
I’m a big Beatles fan and long ago transferred all the Beatles albums from CD to my iPod so I could listen to their complete (or almost complete) library of music when working in the studio without a lot of tedious CD shuffling. One of these days I will have to do a group caricature of the band.

Nice job, Tom – this is great! And spot on observations about his appearance.
I’ve got a complete Beatles playlist, too, but usually listen to them in three groups: Early; Golden; & Mature. “Early” includes their first album to 1/2 of “Hard Day’s Night,” “Golden” is anchored by “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver,” and “Mature” begins with double-single “Strawberry Fields” and “Penny Lane” thru to the end of their career.
Sometimes it’s fun to listen bits of their entire catalog at once, jumping from style to style (as they changed & evolved their sound so much over their main 7-8 years), but I prefer to group them as above to prevent cognitive dissonance.
Wow, Tom great job as usual. To me you’ve captured his eyes and his total attitude perfectly. I’m a Beatle fan myself and growing up listening to the Beatles, watching there movies and cartoons I feel, as I’m sure do others, like I know these guys so seeing this caricature brought a huge smile to my face.
Tom, brilliant, your work though differing in style has the same eyecatching appeal as the great “MORT”. Please Please Me and back this up with sketches of Paul, George and Ringo???? For all us Beatlemaniacs!
