I’ve only done live caricatures a handful of times this summer, and it seems like every time I forget to bring my camera. Yesterday I didn’t forget, so here are a few of the live ones I did and the subjects:

Love the live caricatures Tom! Fun to see how you capture your subjects-the expressions are priceless!
What a thrill it must be for your subjects to get a live caricature drawn of them by a famous MAD artist and soon to be featured in an upcoming Hollywood movie!
(Would’ve been cool if the producers let you do an acting cameo in Super Capers like Stan Lee does in the Marvel movies)
Any chance of someday adding a video of you drawing at your caricature stand on the MADblog Tom so we can see your live approach to drawing caricatures?

Tom , These are FANTASTIC…I love seeing these and I also loved seeing the Sketch Week drawings!
I too, wonder if these customers can possibly appreciate WHO just did their caricature? I would be tickled silly to be holding one of those!
Tom, I noticed ( in the background) your drawing of Peg Bundy….looks an awful lot like Amy Winehouse! Maybe you could do a sketch of them TOGETHER? “Separated at birth” kind of theme!
As a live caricaturist I have to say that to see your live work is truly inspiring. How long does it take for you to complete a live caricature. Speed is certainly a factor ($) in retail caricature and I really like the consistent quality that your work has whether it be freelance or retail. As a caricature artist, I would like for my own work to have that same consistency while retaining a good working pace. Thanks a ton for sharing!
To be honest I doubt many customers would care if they knew I drew for MAD. Everyone has heard of it but it means little to them. I appreciate the kudos but I am just another live caricaturist… better than some but not as good as others. That said I do not allow my artists to tell people what I do outside the park and I never mention it myself. That has nothing to do with drawing at the theme park, and I don’t want people standing in line for me while other artists are doing nothing just because I happen to be published in something they’ve heard of.
I’d like to do a video sometime but that is obtrusive and I am not sure if the theme park would approve. I am drawing a few more times next month so perhaps I’ll try and figure it out.
Finally, to answer Jimmy’s question I do a color double (two people with airbrush color) in about 15 minutes. That’s just head and shoulders without a “theme”… requests like the belly dancer/pirate above takes longer and I charge extra for that kind of thing.
