Off to New England & Comic Book Movies

April 5th, 2008 | Posted in General

I’ll be in Springfield, Mass. for the next several days getting our Six Flags New England theme park operations up and running for the season opener next Saturday, but thanks to the magic of scheduled posting The MAD Blog will continue to grind on.

I mentioned a few posts ago that this summer is going to be comic book geek nirvana at the movie theater. In multiplexes this spring and summer: The Dark Knight, The Incredible Hulk, Hellboy 2, Iron Man, Speed Racer and The X-Files 2 (okay, those last two are not strictly comic book movies, but close enough). Most of these look pretty impressive. I’m hoping I get to do the parody of at least one of these for MAD.

My friend and fellow caricaturist Jim Batts sent me this YouTube video that frankly puts a lot of the big budget comic book films I’ve seen to shame. It’s five minutes long but it’s worth the time;

I like the Hulk better on that clip than I do on the trailer that’s circulating on the internet right now! I couldn’t find any info on where this came from, but it’s terrific. Now I can’t wait for some of these movies to get released!

    My thanks to your friend as well – that clip was great fun! I enjoyed that far more than any five minutes combined of Spider-Man 3.

    Speaking of comic book geek nirvana, this year’s San Diego Comic-Con should prove to be even more interesting than last year, what with all the movies (animated Close Wars among them… woo!) and everything that goes along with them. Alas, I am a geek. Yet, my wife loves me regardless, so I’ve got the best of both worlds! Woo x2!

    Happy Saturday.

    Here’s some more info on this clip. I’m told that Matthew Broderick is the voice of Spidey in this clip and in the video game Marvel Alliance. I suspect that this is part of or a promo for the game’s sequel. I enjoy hearing old greenskin speaking again( unlike the 70’s TV show and later media adaptations). It’s also nice that ole’ shellhead’s not behaving like a huge jerk as he’s portrayed in the current comics.
    Speaking of the Dark Knight movies I spotted “Elect Harvey Dent” shirts
    with Aaron Eckhart’s photo at the Hot Topic store. Very cool. hope you do the MAD parody of Knight.
