My piece in this issue was based on the concept of the new fall TV show “Cavemen”, which features the cavemen from the Geiko ads who are always upset about their being portrayed as brainless. Has that show been cancelled yet?…. just give it a minute….

The piece has 5 examples of other advertising characters getting their own show. Here is a sneak peek and a couple of them. See if you can get the ads they come from. Click the image for a closer look:

So what are you waiting for? Go buy a copy today, clod!

Hahaha, we don’t have that in Australia, so I’m not too sure aabout some of the ads, but the last one was the “Get A Mac” ad with Justin Long. Hehehe you did a great job with those computer guys.

  2. Antzo8 says:

Oh hang on… Is the first panel “Can You Hear Me Now?”…?

  3. …Good!

Actually, you can easily guess the parodies by clicking on the image and looking at its address in the address bar. “verizonguy_big.jpg” and “pc-mac_big.jpg”, so apparently Tom wasn’t trying too hard to make it difficult 🙂
The difficult part is trying to figure out why the Mac is exploding in that second panel!

If Verizon had a show, I wonder if it would show who he’s talking to. Although it would be a Wilson-like mystery that could be funny… after all those commercials with the mystery person, it would just get annoying.

I remember you inking this on of those days you had to fill a chair at the park. Always fun seeing the beginning stages. And by the way, Happy National Boss’ Day!

  5. DShultz says:

    Great work as usual.

…The Verizon Show starring Molly Shannon?

  6. Tom says:

Yes, that’s the Verizon Guy but it’s supposed to be Marlee Matlin. Tough one to recognize. The PC/Mac guys are easier.

sweet, I can’t wait to get my hands on an issue, also for one of my school projests I had to do a report on Apple and Steve Jobs. I did a small kind of Mad parody but just a bunch of famous tv people from apple (Mac guy, PC guy, Steve Jobs ect.)all in one of their headquarters. I had some trouble with steve jobs so it was cool to see how you would caricaturize him!

  8. Antzo8 says:

I also love that cover… but I’m guessing it doesn’t appeal much to the ‘queasy stomach’ demographic. hahaha

  9. delamora says:

When I got this in the mail earier this week, I was really impressed by the cover. Probably my favorite in years.

  10. Tom says:

Lots of people love this cover. I like it too. I love Alfred gags unrelated to the latest movie/TV tie in.

Look carefully on Mac guy’s shirt for a caricature of Jobs.
