Sketch O’The Day

December 15th, 2006 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

Yesterday afternoon I was paging through magazines trying to find a face or figure that was interesting to draw in my sketchbook for the Sketch O’the Day when I realized something… I was spending quite a bit of time paging through magazines and trying to find things to draw for the Sketch O’the Day. Meanwhile I have three deadline jobs on the board.

The Sketch O’the Day feature was a little too ambitious and time consuming. By the time I found a decent picture that I had an interest in drawing, drew it, scanned it, formatted it and uploaded it I as spending an hour a day on that feature. That’s wayyyyy too much time to devote to something purely for “fun”. Plus, to be honest, a lot of those sketches were lousy… drawings just done to get something done. Once something becomes a chore and is no longer fun, there isn’t a lot of reason to keep doing it. Add in the time factor, and I’m afraid the Sketch O’the Day feature is going to have to come to an end.

I started it in an effort to post more artwork on the blog. I’ll keep up that effort by doing more “On the Drawing Board” posts showing jobs in various stages of completion, and will still work in my sketchbook… I’ll just post the drawings I like as opposed to forcing one on you every day. So, every once and a while a Sketch O’the Day will appear, but no longer every day. Thanks for understanding.

I perfectly understand, as long as you keep posting the “On the Drawing Board” stuff, your blog will be always a delightful visit.

Thanks, and don’t worry… I’ll continue with “On the Drawing Board” and will still post a sketch or three every once and a while. They’ll be plenty of artwork to check out.

I enjoyed your daily sketches – ’twas good while it lasted! But I know you’ll always have plenty of other artwork to share around here!
