Sketch O’The Day

Here’s today’s sketch, celebrity nutcase Tom Cruise:

cruiser.jpg

The tabloids, magazines and press love to jump all over people like Cruise, who seem to take themselves way too seriously and offer up their opinions on anything and everything as if they don’t make their living pretending to be other people in front of a camera but are instead expert psychologists, politicians or what have you. People have been ridiculing Cruise (perhaps justly) for months and his career has even suffered as a result.

However can we really blame actors like Cruise for thinking they are more important than the rest of us? Who’s really to blame? Just like a spoiled child is the fault of it’s parents, spoiled celebrities with over-inflated opinions of themselves are the fault of a public that is seemingly obsessed with every detail of their lives. An entire industry is built around the rumors and gossip of celebrity life. What they had for breakfast makes the entertainment magazines, photographers stalk them for pictures because the public buys tens of millions of dollars worth of tabloids a year. We watch TV shows about where they live, what they drive, and who they are dating. Eventually, when everybody tells you that you matter more than anybody else, only the most grounded of people will not come to believe it.

Nope. We made these monsters. Maybe that’s why the only thing the public loves more than hearing about all the details of a rising star is hearing the thud of a falling one.

Cool sketch Tom, most artists always take the profile of Cruise as he is so much easier to draw that way! Your right about the ego thing! I wish the public would stop asking me what I had for supper….heheheheheheheeeee

Haha, that is great. Especially since you have the ability to just “whip them up”. Everytime I end up attempting a caricature I never know how much to distort a feature, or how it will look with the others..so it never turns out how you see it in your mind.

Tom, I can honestly say that is the best caricature of Tom Cruise I have ever seen – the smile, the nose and the eyes – it just jumps off the page – brilliant! What do you think Opsman??
