Sketch o’the Week: Robert De Niro!

April 17th, 2024 | Posted in Sketch O'The Week

Remember how I promised threatened to start a new series for the SotW based on famous moments in movies? Bad news… it’s started! This week’s movie moment is Robert De Niro as “Travis Bickle” in the famous “are you talkin’ to me?” scene from “Taxi Driver”. This might be the most often and badly imitated scene in all of movie history… well, this and any Sean Connery impression. Oh, and before I get a flood of responses to this telling me I put De Niro’s mole on the wrong side of his face, remember this scene takes place in a MIRROR! READ MORE

MADness #97: The Trump Family Circus!

April 15th, 2024 | Posted in MAD Magazine

It’s another nauseating Monday MADness as we chronologically look back at my work for MAD Magazine! We are nearing the end of the New York MAD era with this peek at a piece I did for MAD #544 (April 2017) called “The Trump Family Circus”, written by my CLAPTRAP cohort Desmond Devlin! Mimicking Bil (and later Jeff) Keane‘s art style was nothing new for me. Just a few years earlier I did a similar job for MAD #520 called “Honey Boo Boo’s Family Circus”, but that one was written by Frank Santopadre. Most of the interesting things about a job like this I wrtoe about… READ MORE

Double MAD Covers!

April 10th, 2024 | Posted in MAD Magazine

It’s double the MADness for me this month with not one but two covers I did for the magazine and a special issue. The top one here is for the cover of the Barnes & Noble special issue “MAD Treasure Trove of Trash #8″, which is available in bookstores and some retail outlets. The second one is the cover of MAD #37. If you are wondering who’s who in the crowd of comedians they are: Left, from top: Dave Chappelle, Ricky Gervais, Katt Williams, Ali Wong, Jo Koy. Right from top: Matt Rife, Amy Schumer, Tiffany Haddish, Bert Kreischer, Natasha Leggaro. Middle: Alfred E. Neuman. READ MORE

MADness #96.5: Sully!

April 8th, 2024 | Posted in General

Here we go with yet another moronic Monday of MADness and another installment of our look back at my work for MAD magazine. This is entry number 96.5 because this is the second of two pieces I had in MAD #543, Feb 2017. The first was one of the “MAD 20″ pieces for this year end issue (see our last installment!), and this other was a full parody of the movie “Sully”, written by MAD’s MADdest writer Dick DeBartolo! For a number of years I used this parody as the example when I did a talk on how to do MAD movie parodies, mainly because… READ MORE

Sketch o’the Week: Bogey and Bergman!

April 3rd, 2024 | Posted in General

Here’s caricaturing you, kid! It’s time to round up the usual suspects as we begin a new series for the “Sketch o’the Week”… famous movie scenes! This was inspired by this sketch, which was actually a commission ordered by a longtime customer who wanted Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman drawn in the classic ending scene from “Casablanca”. After I did the sketch I thought a series of caricatures from classic moments in cinema history would be a lot of fun to do. READ MORE
