Animated Sergio

I found out via the MadMumblings forum that Asterisk Animation is doing a series of short films featuring footage of interviews with MAD legends Sergio Aragonés and Al Jaffee. One might presume said shorts will be about MAD Magazine, but there is no official indication of that on the Asterix Animation Blog.

However they were good enough to upload a clip to YouTube that will not be in any of the shorts featuring Sergio talking about some of the animation projects he’s worked on and how that process differs from doing comics.

Unfortunately there are no subtitles… but that is English Sergio is speaking.

   Hi Tom,

   Thanks for the link.

   We’re putting together 5 segments from two year old interviews with Sergio and Jaffee. They’re primarily use will be online, with the possibility of broadcast.

   The project stems from a series we during the election for Sundance and The New Yorker with Steve Brodner called “The Naked Campaign”.

   The format is similar, it’s Brodner in a virtual conversation with the artists. He caricatures them and we use their art and words.

   As you can see from the Aragones clip, the source footage is tough to deal with -fortunately the content is great!

   Segments will start going up in a couple weeks. We’ll post links on our blog when they do.
