Sketch o’the Week

Since I’ve been remodeling the studio I’ve been going through a lot of old piles of drawings and such. I found this old rough sketch of Samuel L. Jackson that was supposed to be a preliminary for a theme park sample that I never got around to finishing. I remember liking it when I did it, but now… meh.

Ha, love Yoda’s shades!
what pencils do you like to use to get these sketches done? I am experimenting with a lot of different types and would love your opinion on what works for you.
Well, to be honest most of the time I draw with a good ol’ No. 2 school pencil. I get these nice, totally round and uncoated wooden pencils with a white rubbery eraser on them at Office Max… it’s a store brand. They are great for sketching. Sometimes I use a mechanical “clutch” type leadholder with 2mm sticks of HB or F leads.
haha love those shades on yoda! And its strange that you had that reaction to the sketch…i feel like i usually have the opposite reaction. Whenever i work on a painting or drawing for too long i tend to feel pretty “meh” about it…but after i put it away for a few days or weeks even, i tend to like it a little better.
