MAD Milestones: First Movie Parody!

My first movie parody was of the Oscar winning film “Traffic”, written by Arnie Kogen and published in MAD #405, May 2001. If you’ve ever seen the film you’ll understand the color palettes I used… all the scenes that took place in Mexico had a yellow and brown cast to them, the ones shot in DC were blue, and those from San Diego were normal color.

Great to see this in its entirety again. Tom, you and Arnie were firing on all cylinders in this one. And while I don’t want to beat the negative MAD-with-ads drum, I will say that your arrival in MAD as a regular spoof artist made it a lot easier for me to accept the new colour-and-ads format when it debuted in early 2001. Very happy that you’re still with MAD – and still excelling – so many years later!
