Bad News… No Cruise…

Cruise_Cancelled

A couple of months ago I shared the announcement of a “Cruise with Cartoonists” event to take place next January. I was one of several guests set to do presentations, drawing sessions, classes, etc. Seven days in the Carribean… it would have been fun. Proceeds would benefit the National Cartoonists Society Foundation and its programs like the Milt Gross Fund and “Cartooning for Kids”.

Unfortunately the cruise did not meet the minimum number of bookings needed to proceed, so the cruise line has cancelled it. If you were one of the few who did reserve a cabin, you should be able to get a full refund of any deposit you put down on the trip. Anyone who booked the cruise under my name, I am offering to do a free caricature of you and/or your significant other as a way to say thanks for the efforts to support the NCSF.

Ah, well. It was a fun idea. Cartoonists are a far cry from TV, film or rock stars, even those that do major features like “Zits”, “Baby Blues”, etc. Themed cruises are all the rage right now, but not this one, I guess.

In a more enlightened world, cartoonists would have more fans than Kardashians.

Too bad about the cancellation. Pretty cool sinking ship animation though.

Sorry to hear that this was canceled. I had been planning to book the cruise but was waiting until October because I wasn’t sure that you would get enough interest. If you ever consider doing this in the future, you might consider the pricing. I know it was being done to benefit the NCSF, but adding almost $1,000 per person to the basic cruise price was a bit much. And my wife would have had to pay the additional cost, and she had no interest in attending the programs, she just wanted to go on a cruise.
